This church report marked a new transition: Mission Shaped Church (2004), written by a group headed by Bishop Graham Cray. This not only described some of the “fresh expressions of church” which were springing up all over the country, but talked about the theology of such things, and gave encouragement to those who wanted to experiment with forms of church that would reach those presently “unchurched.”

Bishop Cray is perhaps best known for chairing the committee which produced the landmark document, ‘Mission Shaped Church’, adopted by General Synod in the UK in 2004. He has been a leader in the Fresh Expressions movement in the UK, encouraging church plants in unusual locations and formats.
